£100,000 social value cash donation to 52 food bank charities helping people facing food poverty up and down the country.

At LASER, we’re not just about energy buying, we’re about making a difference. This year, we partnered with npower Business Solutions (nBS), a supplier of our electricity framework, to provide direct support to local food bank charities.

To help our customers achieve their social value responsibilities, we assigned a 10% social value weighting in the award criteria of our 2024-2028 electricity framework agreement. As part of their social value contributions, nBS donated £100,000, which will see support for food bank charities up and down the country.

Customers buying electricity with nBS through the LASER framework have nominated food bank charities which they would like to receive a donation. A total of 51 food bank charities across the UK received a third of the total donation. The remaining £67,000 went to the Trussell Trust, the UK’s largest community of food banks, which is made up of over 400 food banks operating from more than 1,400 centres across the UK.

The money will help provide emergency food and practical support to people in need, providing emergency food parcels to individuals and families who can’t afford to eat, keep warm and pay the bills.

A handful of the charities benefiting from the LASER Social Value Scheme 2024/25 include: Trussell Trust, The Community Storehouse, Leyland Foodbank, Bexhill Foodbank, Deal Foodbank, Horsham Matters, Waterloo Foodbank, Northern Devon Foodbank, Acts of Kindness, Folkstone Rainbow Centre, The Farm Community Kitchen and many more.

In the past 12 months, Trussell’s network of food banks provided 3.1 million emergency food parcels to people facing hardship across the UK – this is the most parcels the network has ever distributed in a single year.

£65,000 helps them support a food bank to provide an emergency food parcel to over 5,000 (5,416) people in crisis.

We're thrilled to be working with nBS to give back to local communities through social value donations. We're proud of the contribution to Trussell’s important work and make a real difference in the lives of those in need. Here's to many more opportunities to give back and grow together.

Your support allows us to be there for people in their hardest moments and offers more than just food - it brings hope, dignity, and relief to people in financial hardship. Your generosity means we can ensure funds are targeted where they are needed the most so food banks can continue to be there for people to provide compassionate, practical support and advice this winter. Together, we can make a real difference.

Again, a huge thank you from everyone at Trussell.

Trussell Trust

Thank you for supportiing The Community Storehouse in the work which we are doing in our local community around Paddock Wood. With donations received from local businesses, organisations and many individuals such as yourselves, we're able to support those in our local communities who find themselves in difficult circumstances and struggle to feed themselves and their families. Apart from being a vehicle to pass on the generous donations of food we are given, we also use some of our monetary funds to purchase food supplies and fresh food on a weekly basis, which can be included in the food parcels we give out. Increasingly, we are having to purchase a lot of our food supplies, so your donation is particularly helpful with this.

Social Value

Through public procurement, our Social Value programme aims to deliver positive social, environmental and economic impact through employee volunteering, expertise and financial donations. We work in partnership with our customers, suppliers, and other key stakeholders to build a better future, sharing skills and knowledge to help the communities where we operate.

Whether that’s through cash donations to support charities or through community volunteering days, having a positive impact and bringing change is at the core of everything we do.
