The project was commissioned by Kent County Council as part of an improvement to the library. The space had become quite dark, and everyone was keen to create a brighter, more engaging environment for the local community.
The original light fittings were ceiling suspended and through conducting a survey of the existing lighting we concluded that the older ceiling was not the best option, so a brand-new design was created to accommodate this and to really open the space using the new light fittings. All the suppliers and contractors were procured via our LED Lighting Framework.
As a council committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 through its Climate Change Plan, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council needed to take practical steps to decarbonise its estate – while facing increasing pressure to deliver value quickly and safely.
For local government, the conversation about net zero is changing. The ambition has not disappeared, but the language around it is becoming more practical, more local and, in many cases, more focused on the day-to-day pressures facing councils and communities.
