Set to switch water suppliers on 1st February, Greenwich Leisure Limited made it their new years’ resolution to save money on their water bills and in doing so predict to make savings of £151,000 per annum with the help of LASER’s Water Procurement Framework. With an annual spend of 4.9 million, the organisation decided to proceed with their switch on 9th September 2018, setting themselves up for some substantial savings.
Who are GLL?
GLL are a charitable social enterprise which offers community leisure centres and fitness facilities across the UK. Founded in 1993, the first model of its kind opened to assist Greenwich Council manage their leisure centres in a more cost efficient way. GLL now manages over 250 public sport and leisure centres and 57 libraries working in partnership with more than 30 local councils, public agencies and sporting organisations.
GLL is also the largest operator of swimming pools in the UK, running 146 across the country. They host over 150 swimming clubs, have 2 British swimming high performance centres and over 1,000 schools use their facilities each term. It is no wonder therefore, that GLL’s water consumption is estimated to reach over 1,900,000 m3 in 2019.
In order to find the best supplier for Greenwich Leisure, LASER looked at GLL’s specific water requirements and analysed each supplier on the framework against them to find the most suitable solution. After a lengthy review process, LASER recommended Castle Water.
Castle Water is a leading independent business water supplier, providing water and wastewater services to hundreds of thousands of businesses, charities and public bodies in England and Scotland. As a high consuming organisation, GLL are eligible for a lower unit rate from Castle, and with a high standard of trade effluence by monitoring the cleanliness of their sewage, Castle can also offer a reduce sewage rate knowing that the water is safe and the risk of expensive callouts is at a minimum.
LASER’s Water Procurement Framework offers customers a range of additional services to assist in their water supply to ensure everything runs smoothly. It was important to GLL that they were always kept up to date with any developments, and so a dedicated Account Manager was assigned, as well as quarterly account meetings, weekly conference calls and face to face meetings. GLL will be provided with a single consolidated bill and AMR units have also been included at no extra cost.
LASER Bureau Service
Effective Energy Management is crucial to the identification and elimination of wasted water
and the reduction of costs. This is why finding the right Bureau service is so important. LASER’s Bureau Service has been included to GLL’s Water Mini Tender, resulting in the organisation benefitting from; validation, monitoring and in-depth reporting, which has been added to their existing energy dashboard.
As an existing LASER Bureau customer for their gas and electricity requirements, GLL were able to collate all of their utilities together in a single location, monitoring all of their usage under LASER’s validation service and reducing the unit rate.
